I can’t believe how quickly the first month has gone. In just a few weeks, our entire routine has changed and our little ones have grown.
The hard part about preemies is they take a few steps forward, then one back. But they’re trying to learn and do a lot all at once (eat, breath, suck, poop), things they weren’t supposed to do for another couple of months. With that in mind, they are exceptional!
Emmett is on an all breast milk diet now, which means he’s growing like a weed (and keeping me busy!). Grace got tuckered out trying to digest breast milk and breath on her own simultaneously, so she’s back on CPAP and getting small breast milk feedings. This little lady doesn’t like to be rushed into anything. Can you blame her? But she certainly seems none too satisfied with the CPAP harness on her face, so let’s hope she grows out of it soon. Plus it gets in the way of mom’s pictures.
We toured our local hospital NICU this week, in hopes of transfering the babes when they’re ready. The services locally are much smaller, and quieter–a good thing, we think. But we’ll be patient and wait until they are both ready. It will be so nice to have them down the road, just minutes away.
