Every once in awhile, you just need to get away. But when you have two babies on their way and a doctor’s bar on travel just two weeks off, the hopes of vacation reach a new high. So in celebration of our final anniversary as just the two of us (though of course the babies are with us all the time, in utero), we headed for a week exploring Oregon in our new mommy-mobile (aka a 4-door Chevy Silverado).
After a bunch of bathroom breaks and a night in Dunsmuir, California, we made it to our first destination: Bend, Oregon. Bend has received a bunch of hype the past few years, and their growth is apparent everywhere. While I’m not a fan of strip-malls and lots of new construction, Bend appears to have made a commitment to work/live designs and natural wonders that abide. While we couldn’t take advantage of their infamous skiing, rock climbing or mountain biking (bummer!) we did enjoy a nature walk by Benham Falls. Of course, I tucker out pretty quickly these days, so each activity–like this “hike”–is quickly followed by a nap.
For our mellow anniversary, we enjoyed a nice dinner out in a transformed firehouse, but decided to curl up in our hotel room with yummy milkshakes for dessert. By the end of this trip I’ll probably have doubled my pregnancy weight gain!
Next stops: Portland and Cottage Grove.
