Resting for the next adventure

Life has been full, as usual. We’ve recently completed oodles of projects and now move on to preparing for the next adventure.

Let’s review the past few weeks:

Hubby flawlessly installed new floors in our living room and guest bath. After cleaning up the remnants (and reinstalling the toilet) we’re back in business and reveling in a stunning house. (A special shout-out to Chris Frost for helping rip up the carpet and moving the piano, twice).

After many hours of class, practice and adventures to the dog park, Bella has perfected her sit, down, and stay, thanks to her puppy class. She is even (finally) learning to walk on a leash, a skill we’ve never mastered with our sweet old pooch Guinness.

While Hubby sawed and hammered, I’ve spent almost every night writing, editing and emailing press releases for the Santa Cruz Film Festival, where I serve on the B-of-Directors. We’re nearing game time (the Fest kicks-off April 19th with David Arquette’s “The Tripper”) and I’ve worked down to the final flow and have two releases left before the whole shebang is over. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

The icing on the cake was the purchase of my folks’ GMC truck with 4-Wheel Pop-up Camper. We’re still a little in shock (the good kind) and getting used to the idea of having this great house-on-wheels. The dogs love it, my bike fits in the back, and we’re enjoying my Dad’s homemade laptop stand that I call my “portable office.”

With the endless motion and activity, we’re happy to finally return to the ground and move to the planning stages for our next adventures.

In the not-so-distant future we see our two-week road trip around the West (in our camper, of course!), a summer of drinks on the deck and bike rides on fresh trails, taking Bella and Guinness on long walks, and then transforming our downstairs bedroom into the ultimate home office.

What adventures are you preparing for?

  1. Hey, Mike, your floor looks great - wish we could see it in
person. Wes, I thought you must be closeted in some thing
as your web hadn’t changed in over a month. Bella just gets
bigger and bigger. Does that truck come to MI? love ya

  2. The floor looks beautiful!

Now, about that laptop stand… since you’ve been using it, any ideas how it could be improved??? Since we’re upgrading the truck and camper, can y’all suggest how this could be upgraded too?

Gram… it isn’t just “that truck”… her name is “Ellie”.

By the way, the newest addition to our clan is “Rocky”, you’ll see the post soon at gigglefern.

  3. Now Dad, sometimes when you adopt something you change the name… ;-)

As for the laptop stand, I actually have not used it for the laptop at all. I’ve used it to read a magazine, hold the mail, write a grocery shopping list, and a few other tasks like that. So, if it were to be improved (which would be hard, it’s pretty great) I would make a spot for holding a pen and probably add one optional strap going vertical (in addition to the 2 horizontal) for swiping mail underneath. You obviously wouldn’t use this strap for your laptop, but it would be handy at other times.

  4. Your house looks beautiful, your dog looks even more beautiful, but most of all, I’m excited about your camping possibilities. I wish you the best kind of adventures on your road trip.

I was lucky enough to have a lot of family road/camping/hiking trips with my famliy, growing up. These days I’m not looking for any adventures, unless you count my tiny daily adventures of striving to get a little bit healthier and a little more in charge of my life. It’s enough for me. So tell me some stories or show me some photos, or better, drawings after your trip, and I’ll get those vicarious thrills!

Have you ever considered scanning some of your drawings and posting them here, by the way?

  5. Indeed I have. However, our scanner is basically broken (or somehow so technologically inept that it won’t scan-Argh!). Peggy said she has a scanner in her office. So I might be able to take advantage of that. Good suggestion though.

  6. Hmmm… Westi … you know the answer to that last question for us. I’m looking forward to Rocky meeting Ellie today … and Shelly meeting, well, your camper. Poor thing. It never had a name. And seeing you and Mike. It’s been too long. Happy Easter!
