What are you grateful for?

Category: Meaningful – westi – 9:33 pm

There is nothing like bountiful sunshine and a brightly colored fresh harvest to fill up your senses and make you grateful for being alive. Today as I strolled the aisles of our local farmers’ market I thought about how lucky I am and how much I am grateful for.

After a hard weekend of feeling upset and worrying about my employment I purchased a copy of SARK’s book Prosperity Pie. She supports the idea that we already have everything we need, we are enough, and we know enough. It was just the reminder I needed to get out of my own head of worry and circular thoughts. An exercise I found especially thought provoking was writing down things you are grateful for, large and small, simple and silly. Of course, I couldn’t help but draw my list into my watercolor journal, pictured here.

This is just a taste of my never complete, always growing list of things a I’m grate-”full” for:
- Having a job! - My husbands hugs and smiles - My cat Jasmine’s never ending love - Not needing an alarm clock - Steamed milk & apple pie - My fuzzy blue bathrobe - Really good cheese - Sunrises - Redwood trees with ferns ensnaring them - Pink jasmine flowers - A full nights sleep! - Waking up to the sound of birds (not 18 wheelers) - Cool earrings - A nest-like bed - Friends who totally get me and love me exactly how I am

That’s just the beginning and a taste of the things that make my life juicy.

So share with me, what are you grateful for?

  1. Okay, where was family in that list of stuff?

And do you have 1 job? That is good news if so!

  2. I’m glad the posting is still here. I was going to respond Saturday - but then I got sick. Now it’s Monday and I am definitely grateful to feel so much better and for good health in general.
The main thing I’m grateful for is a loving, supportive extended family — especially the two amazing young people we all know!!
You know that as we grow older this list grows, too - but here are a few more things that I think of today. The wonders of creation all around me - warm sun, sea breezes, flowers in our yard, fish in our pond (even the garter snake there)and the two families of black phoebes that have found a home in a nest on the outside of our house. The latest three babies just left the nest Sunday. I also have to add to pies –my favorites are pumpkin and keylime. And, of course, good coffee.
Yes - SOOOOO much to be grateful for - thank you for reminding us!

  3. What a great list Deborah! I love that many of the things you appreciate most are in nature. Often we rush along so quickly that we don’t stop to notice the amazing little things all around us, like a nest of baby birds. Oh, pumpkin pie!! I want to add that to my list too. And yes Michele, family is without doubt on my list. It’s actually on that journal page in the picture, I just didn’t type it into my blog-oops! Lastly, yes, I was fortunate enough to keep my current job, so I am presently employed. Whew!
